Rebecca Smith has worked in Bedfordshire for nearly thirty
years, as a teacher of modern foreign languages and then as County
International Links Officer. Prior to this, she was educated in
Bruges, Belgium, before studying in Paris and working in education in
France. Through these continued links, Bedfordshire has gained an
international as well as a national reputation for its work. In
2001, this culminated in Rebecca being awarded the honour of Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques, which
was conferred upon her by the President of the French Republic, in
recognition of services to education and culture.
Rebecca remains committed to the international dimension and is
currently working closely with the British Council and the DfES in promoting this area within the
curriculum, thus providing opportunities for teachers and
pupils to work with, learn from and enjoy the immense opportunities
that wider horizons can offer.
